Tapestry Trust’s Autumn Harvest

We’re celebrating the autumn by announcing the recipients of this quarter’s Tapestry Trust donations. Each charity nominated for the Trust was chosen by a member of the Tapestry team, often because they have a personal connection with their chosen charity. The charities receiving our autumn donations include: The Brain Aneurysm Foundation, BipolarUK, Medical Detection Dogs and The Sea Change Café.

Tapestry chose to donate to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation (BAF), after learning that our friend Kerri Fortune had lost her mum to a brain aneurysm at a very young age. Kerri regularly participates in fundraising activities for the BAF, which is why we both wanted to donate to and raise awareness of, the foundation. The BAF is America’s only nonprofit organisation solely dedicated to providing critical awareness, education, support and research funding to reduce the incidence of brain aneurysms.

Each donation helps them to expand research, education, advocacy and patient services for those people globally, who are affected by the devastation they cause.

Our team nominated BipolarUK in memory of a fellow researcher, ‘an absolutely awesome bloke’, who struggled with bipolar. Peer support is at the heart of BipolarUK, the only national charity dedicated to empowering individuals and families affected by the condition.  BipolarUK helps around 1,000 people a month to stay well, and aims to reach thousands more – through peer support groups, their eCommunity, and 1-1 peer support. They campaign tirelessly to improve the lives of their community.

Tapestry’s very own Senior Research Exec Alex Keane is training for the Hertfordshire Half Marathon to raise money for Medical Detection Dogs.

Alex is barking up the right tree supporting this amazing charity, whose mission is to save and enhance lives using these specially trained Dogs’ extraordinary sense of smell. Medical Detection Dogs are trained to detect the odour of human disease with the aim of developing fast, efficient and less invasive tests to help give patients a better future.  To make a personal donation to Alex, go to his Givestar link: Hertfordshire Half Marathon – November | givestar

The Sea Change Café is a social enterprise café with two venues in South Shields and Sunderland, where Tapestry’s Sam Elphinstone grew up. Their mission is to empower neurodiverse adults in the region with the skills, confidence, and experience they need for sustainable employment. To date they’ve offered work placements to over 50 neurodiverse individuals and have successfully trained 20 adults with autism and/or disabilities into hospitality roles.

Sea Change also offers space for local artists and live music and is a hub for community events. There is a north-south connection here, as Sea Change Café is supported by London designers Mark & Keith who founded Mini Moderns.

Feel free to make personal donations to each of the charities we voted for, each of which we are grateful to have been made aware of. The recipients of the Tapestry Trust Q4 will be revealed in December.
