Welcoming our new Interns

We welcomed some fantastic new additions to the team at the end of June: Nana Afriyie and Helen Oguntoyinbo – two interns who are working with us over the summer, as part of the 10,000 Black Interns Programme.

While studying Human Behaviour as part of her Psychology degree course at the University of Warwick, Nana has already worked on multiple projects, creating research designs, practically carrying out the research using questionnaires and interviews, data analysis using SPSS for descriptive and inferential statistics, and writing comprehensive reports.

Nana says: “I am excited to apply my academic knowledge by forming hypotheses and collecting data for real companies, while gaining insights from experienced professionals.”

Helen recently completed her master’s degree in marketing communications from Bournemouth University. With a long-term goal to work in Research, her interest was piqued during a course on consumer insights which sparked my curiosity about understanding “why” people do things.

Helen says: “My academic research experience was a strong foundation, but I knew I needed real-world experience to take it to the next level. This is where the incredible opportunity at Tapestry, secured through the 10,000 Black Interns Programme, comes in!’

The 10,000 Black Interns Programme was set up in 2020 to address the underrepresentation of Black talent within Investment Management. Since then, the registered charity has progressed to work with organisations across over 35 workstreams to provide insight into industry for black students. Since its launch they have already supported 25,000 applicants through paid internships, training and mentoring. Now, the foundation runs both the original programme as well as the 10,000 Able Interns programme, supporting disabled students and graduates.

Tapestry signed up to the MRS Inclusion Pledge earlier this year and joining the 10,000 Black Interns Programme was a natural progression; we enrolled in the scheme as part of our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Helen and Nana are the first interns Tapestry has brought into the fold and we thoroughly enjoying collaborating with them both. It is a really rewarding experience for us, as well as them! Stay tuned to hear more about their experiences over the next couple of months!
