Helping Hand to Support a Crisis at Christmas

Tapestry’s volunteer days enable each of the team to give their time to a charity of their choice in a personal, hands-on way. In December 2023, Associate Director Lily Spencer, returned for a second year to help the London team of Crisis at Christmas. She says:

One of the (many great!) things about working at Tapestry is that we get given ‘volunteer days’ every year. For the past two years this has meant I’ve taken part in Crisis at Christmas.

Every year, Crisis helps people who are facing homelessness across the nation. Their work extends beyond the ‘festive’ season and the people they support range from those rough sleeping through to those who are sofa surfing.

Over Christmas 2023 Crisis helped over 6,600 people through a range of day centres and hotels in London. I was fortunate enough to get to spend two days at one of these hotels. My tasks included serving up meals and snacks through to being (very) beaten at table tennis!

The centre I worked at had a specific goal to help those who have been rough sleeping for at least six years. Their overall aim was that nobody would leave the centre after the three-week period without a plan to help build their life beyond homelessness.

I cannot recommend volunteering at Crisis enough, it’s one of the most rewarding things I get to do every year! You get to make such an impact in a short space of time and get to see the power of what human connection can do to help those most in need at a particularly difficult time of year.”
