Deadline for applications: 1st April

What’s the job?

We’re looking for a curious and creative data analyst who can combine a deep understanding of maths and data science with the art of analysis and storytelling.

You will be delivering on the more advanced and data-led aspects of research studies, managing and coaching team members and developing entirely new approaches and techniques.

This is a data analyst role but, of course, that can mean many things. For this role, it means being at the wilder frontier of data analysis. Rather than having a set approach, you’ll often be faced with a blank piece of paper and have to figure out the solution from scratch.

You’ll be involved in answering the trickier questions; often needing to creatively apply familiar techniques or experiment with new ones before you find the approach that can crack it wide open.

This might see you using SEM to figure out the underlying system behind a decision, using latent class analysis to isolate differences or working with non-survey data to identify patterns and insight. There will be more bread-and-butter segmentations and driver analysis studies – we do loads of those! – but you’ll have the ability, curiosity and desire to go beyond typical market research statistics.

You’ll be client facing, so an ability to manage deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously as well as clearly communicating with external stakeholders is a must. You’ll need to be comfortable explaining complex ideas simply and coherently.

The ideal candidate will share our company values, will be self-motivated and someone who takes their own development seriously. There is huge room for development, allowing you to take charge of your own destiny, shaping your own and the company’s future.

What does it require?

  • Leading the advanced analytics elements of our studies, collaborating with the research team on design and execution. You’ll also be working with our clients to choose and apply the techniques which best deliver against their objectives. Typical analytical techniques include advanced regression, structural equation modelling, cluster analysis and conjoint, but we often use atypical techniques as well.
  • Working with both fellow analysts and researchers to push the analysis as far as it can go, finding and delivering the right solution while respecting both internal and external deadlines
  • Explaining, reporting or presenting the most advanced elements of studies to clients, ensuring the approach and insight is understood clearly and cleanly – in essence, making the complex simple (see what we did?)
  • Line-managing and mentoring more junior team members, ensuring the high quality of their work and helping them in their progression.
  • Working with the Director of Advanced Analytics, you’ll also help to push us further as a company, identifying new techniques and approaches then working to ensure they become part of our toolkit across the entire company

Who are you?

The ideal candidate will…

  • Be able to identify with the Tapestry values, you will be enthusiastic, highly curious and creative, with a tenacious mindset.
  • Have a strong background in advanced data analysis with a focus on using analysis to deliver insight and tell stories.
  • Be statsy or mathsy. A knowledge of maths, statistics or data science. You don’t need to have a formal educational background in maths but being stats literate will be invaluable when faced with difficult problems to solve.
  • Have advanced and comprehensive knowledge of (and extensive experience of using) R and/or Python for market research style projects. SQL or Javascript is useful but not core.
  • Ideally have 3+ years of experience, and be able to demonstrate a strong track record of using the most advanced techniques to directly address client objectives. This doesn’t necessarily need to be market research, but should be related or transferable to the industry
  • Be able to take a novel, creative approach to analysis and briefs, applying rigour and pragmatism as appropriate
  • Be able to organise yourself and create structures to support managing deadlines and projects with competing priorities in a client-facing environment.
  • Display a genuine interest in the world around you – people, their behaviours and culture.
  • Boast excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and powerfully on point.
  • Possess a strong eye for detail, consistently produces work to exacting standards.
